India Forum

The Institute of Political Science and Sociology maintains close contact with India. The India Forum has arisen from numerous activities. Its members and their Indian partners participate in research projects, organize events and issue publications.

The India Forum regularly welcomes Indian visiting lecturers to Würzburg. This relationship is however not one-sided. Academics from Würzburg also travel to India, both staff from the Institute and students from our Master’s program.

Workshop Panel: "Gender, BRICS and G20 – Contested Norms and Categories in Global Governance"

In February 2024, the ICAS:MP workshop "The Lens of Gender: Refiguration of Categories" took place at India International Centre in New Delhi. In this framework, Dr. Philipp Gieg from IPS and Prof. Ummu Salma Bava from JNU New Delhi convened a panel on "Gender, BRICS and G20 – Contested Norms and Categories in Global Governance" on 27 February 2024.

New Publication: "India's Africa Policy"

"India's Africa Policy – Challenges of a Millennia-Old Relationship" has been published by Palgrave Macmillan. Dr. Philipp Gieg, postdoctoral reseracher at the Chair of International Relations and European Studies, analyzes India's contemporary Africa policy – from trade, investment and development cooperation to diplomatic relations and security policy.

Workshop: "The Challenge of Gender"

In July 2023, the ICAS:MP workshop "The Challenge of Gender" took place in Würzburg. Researchers from India and Germany as well as international guests discussed in three panels, among others, "International Organizations and the Promotion of Gender Equality" or "Gender, Violence and the Complexities of Law".
